Male Fertility Evaluation

The first step toward restoring your fertility

Conceiving a baby takes more than just sperm and an egg. Any problems in your reproductive system can interfere with success.

At the Henry Ford Men’s Health Clinic, we’re experts at accurately diagnosing all causes of male infertility. Our thorough evaluation gives us the tools to customize a fertility treatment plan that meets your needs and goals. With expert skills and advanced techniques, we help make biological parenthood a reality.

What is a male fertility evaluation?

We recommend men and women have fertility evaluations after 1 year of trying to conceive (or 6 months if your female partner is over 35). For men, fertility testing includes:

  • Health history: Your doctor will ask detailed questions about your medical, family and fertility history.
  • Physical exam: Performing a thorough physical exam provides your doctor with more information to help diagnose your condition.
  • Blood test: We’ll check reproductive hormone levels for imbalances that may affect your fertility.
  • Semen analysis: A comprehensive semen analysis is the most important male fertility test. As part of this test, our skilled experts examine sperm count, semen volume, sperm shape and motility. We provide discreet and comfortable areas for semen collection.

What are common causes of male infertility?

Your doctor diagnoses your condition after a thorough analysis of your physical exam and test results. We privately discuss the results with you and your partner, if you have one, and review treatment options together. Our specialists successfully treat many causes of male infertility including:
