General Questions

What is an E-Visit?

When you opt for an E-Visit, you complete a questionnaire about specific non-urgent health conditions in Henry Ford MyChart. The information is sent securely to a provider who will respond in MyChart with a written diagnosis and treatment.

When are E-Visits available?

You can initiate an E-Visit anytime using MyChart. Expect an electronic response in MyChart within one business day (not including weekends and holidays). Select “2-Hour Rapid Response” for primary care from a Henry Ford Virtual Primary Care doctor and receive a reply within two hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.

How does an E-Visit work?

All E-Visits are conducted securely through MyChart. Afterward, the notes from your E-Visit become part of your personal medical record, where you and your providers can access them anytime. To begin, follow these step-by-step instructions:

  1. Open the Henry Ford MyChart webpage on your computer and log in to your account. If you are using a tablet or smartphone, launch the MyChart app on your device. You can download the mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. From the menu, select “Send an E-Visit Message.”
  3. Follow the prompts and answer a questionnaire about your symptoms. Your information is sent securely based on your recipient selection, either to your provider or, if you chose “2-Hour Rapid Response,” to a Henry Ford Virtual Primary Care provider.
  4. Look for a response under “Messages” in MyChart within one business day (not including weekends and holidays) or within two hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week if you selected “2-Hour Rapid Response.” Details and outcomes of your E-Visit will also be available under “Visits” in the “Past” section.

What is the difference between an E-Visit and a Video Visit?

The main difference between an E-Visit and a Video Visit is that during an E-Visit, you do not meet or talk with your provider in real time.

  • E-Visits: You complete an online questionnaire and submit it to a Henry Ford provider via MyChart to receive a treatment plan.
  • Video Visits, including Video Visits On Demand and Scheduled Video Visits: You have an appointment with a Henry Ford primary care or specialty care provider in real time using a computer with a webcam or video-enabled mobile device. Note: Virtual health services are not for emergencies.

What if I have an E-Visit follow-up question or concern to communicate to the provider?

Log in to your Henry Ford MyChart account and send your provider a secure MyChart message under the “Messages” button.
