Henry Ford Wyandotte, Macomb hospitals earn national nurse residency accreditation

DETROIT — Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital and Henry Ford Macomb Hospital have earned Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP)accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), a national recognition of the hospitals’ nurse residency programs and their commitment to supporting nurses as they begin their careers.

PTAP accreditation recognizes nurse residency and fellowship programs that meet evidence-based standards to help registered nurses transition into new practice settings. The accreditation reinforces Henry Ford Health’s commitment to strengthening the nursing workforce in southeast Michigan by supporting new nurses as they enter bedside care.

“We are thrilled to earn PTAP accreditation, which reflects the strength of our nursing team and our commitment to helping new nurses build confidence, competence and connection,” said Kim Meeker, vice president and chief nursing officer at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. 

“This achievement is about more than meeting rigorous standards. It is about creating a culture where nurses are supported, valued and prepared to provide the highest level of care for our patients,” said Stephanie Gibson, vice president and chief nursing officer at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.

Each of Henry Ford Health’s 12 acute-care hospitals offer paid, 12-month nurse residency program that helps newly licensed nurses transition from nursing school into professional practice. Nurse residents work alongside experienced nurses while building critical thinking, clinical reasoning, decision-making and communication skills through seminars, workshops, peer groups, role playing, competency reviews and mentoring.

The PTAP accreditation supports hospitals’ broader journey toward Magnet Recognition by ANCC, which is considered the premier recognition for nursing excellence and quality patient care.

Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Henry Ford Jackson Hospital and Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital have earned Magnet Recognition. All 12 Henry Ford Health acute-care hospitals across Michigan are working toward Magnet Recognition.
