The Henry Ford Department of Neurosurgery offers a broad spectrum of neurosurgical services, each backed by strong teaching and research programs, providing patients the most recent advances in diagnosis and treatment technologies. Our nationally recognized clinicians provide expert, coordinated care in a variety of specialties.

  • Neuro-Oncology

    The Hermelin Brain Tumor Center is one of the premier neuro-oncology centers in the nation, and the only such center in Michigan. Our state-of-the-art clinical and research services include one of the nation’s largest brain tumor boards and the first high field adult intraoperative MRI in Michigan, providing better surgical treatment of even the most complex brain and spinal cord tumors. Our expert team is dedicated to research that improves treatment, outcomes, and quality of life for our patients.

  • Neurovascular surgery and therapies

    With some of the best clinical outcomes in the United States, the Henry Ford Cerebrovascular Center is a nationally recognized resource for aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). In addition, the program works in collaboration with the Harris Stroke Center on neuroregeneration research for patients who have suffered a stroke or brain hemorrhage. We offer two Neuro Critical Care Units staffed by experienced, fellowship-trained experts in neurological care.

  • Spinal disorders and neurotrauma

    The Department coordinates a multidisciplinary Spine Center that includes neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, physiatrists, radiologists and pain specialists who work together to provide the most efficient and effective experience for patients with spinal disorders. The Department of Neurosurgery performs more spine surgery than any other Neurosurgery Department in Michigan and was the first to employ minimally invasive spine surgery techniques.

  • Epilepsy surgery

    The Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at Henry Ford is one of the most active in the country, featuring two modern Epilepsy Monitoring Units. We undertake a wide spectrum of investigational and therapeutic approaches, developed by experts to provide the best surgical outcomes.

  • Movement disorder neurosurgery

    Neurosurgeons with the Movement Disorders Center at Henry Ford provide advanced treatment for patients with Parkinson’s Disease, Essential Tremor, Dystonia and other movement disorders through Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). DBS is an innovative surgical technique that can relieve the symptoms of different movement disorders for patients who no longer gain adequate relief of their symptoms with medication.

  • Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH)

    Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) is an abnormal increase of fluid in the brain's ventricles or cavities. NPH can occur in people of any age, but it is most common in the elderly population. Henry Ford offers a special multidisciplinary clinic for the treatment of NPH, along with an expert team of neurosurgeons who specialize in the condition.

  • Radiosurgery and advanced imaging

    Henry Ford offers the Novalis® Shaped Beam Surgery™ Program, which is widely regarded as the most advanced radiosurgery system in the country. This technology gives doctors the ability to treat very irregularly shaped lesions and use intensity modulated radiation therapy, or IMRT, which minimizes damage to normal brain tissue. Our experienced neurosurgeons pioneer new treatments for other Novalis sites worldwide.

  • Combining surgical skill and advanced technology

    Our highly skilled neurosurgeons combine their experience and expertise with the advantages of leading edge technology to improve precision, safety and patient outcomes. For example, spine, orthopedic and trauma-related surgeries can be performed with even more exacting precision with the Medtronic StealthStation S7 for neurosurgery navigation and the O-Arm MultiDimensional Surgical Imaging System.
