  • Our EM program was established in 2015
  • In July 2024, we transitioned to a 3 year EM program accredited by the American Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) with 30 residents (10 residents per year) and 12 core faculty
  • Henry Ford Jackson Hospital (HFJH) is a Level II trauma center with 420 inpatient beds serving around 20,000 inpatients per year. Our emergency department (ED) is comprised of 60 private treatment rooms serving about 80,000 visits per year
  • The ED is staffed by Independent Emergency Physicians (IEP) group – a successful democratic emergency medicine group based in Farmington Hills, MI. Founded in 2000, IEP now leads and teaches 5 emergency medicine residencies in Michigan. Henry Ford Jackson EM residency is the oldest in the group
  • Program alumni have a board-pass rate of 94%
  • We are unopposed in emergency procedures
  • HFJH is located approximately 30 miles south of East Lansing (MSU) and 30 miles west of Ann Arbor (U of M). We are close to I-94 which supplies many patients for our trauma experience. We are only hospital in a 30-mile radius
  • Our facility specialties include: cardiovascular, vascular, thoracic, plastics, general surgery, gastrointestinal, nephrology, cardiology, urology, orthopedics, anesthesia, ENT, hand surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, sports medicine, primary care, obstetrics, psychiatry and OMFS
  • Other residency programs at HFJH include: family medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, internal medicine
  • Michigan International Speedway (MIS) is a 30-minute drive from Jackson. MIS hosts NASCAR races and country music events. Many residents have taken part in event medicine at these activities
  • Moonlighting is available for senior residency in good standing with the program
  • Our specialty tracks include: emergency medical services (EMS), sports medicine, ultrasound (US), and wilderness medicine (WM)
  • Electronic medical record is Epic. We use voice dictation throughout the hospital
  • Our hospital provides free parking and a cafeteria stipend
  • EM shifts are typically 10 hours long
  • We are fortunate to have social work and case management in the ED. Both help tremendously with our psychiatric and geriatric populations
