You can make a difference
Everyone wants to make a difference in the lives of others. One way some people are doing that is by volunteering. How could one possibly measure the value of holding the hand of a recently diagnosed cancer patient or offering companionship to a lonely patient? The kindnesses extended to others by our team of dedicated volunteers have a direct impact on our patients. Whether you are there to just offer some companionship to a patient, assisting getting a blanket for a patient or helping someone get where they need to go. There's something curious about giving: What you give has a way of coming back to you. In fact, volunteers at Henry Ford Hospital aren't here long before they realize they are getting back as much as they're giving.
Our volunteers have the opportunity to learn, explore health careers, develop new skills, and most of all enjoy the satisfaction that comes from helping others.
Who are our volunteers?
Our volunteer family is a unique blend of community members. They include teens, college students, professionals, retirees, individuals looking for a career change, and people with time to give.
What do they do?
Some of the important things they do are: greet our guests with a smile and escort them to their destination, get a blanket for a patient who is feeling cold, conduct pet therapy visits, and support our staff by performing various clerical duties.
When do they volunteer?
Volunteering fits into everyone's schedule. Volunteers can work any time of the day or night, any day of the week. The Volunteer Services Department asks that volunteers commit at least four hours a week. However, many eagerly volunteer much more because they love what they do and they love the people. We look forward to you volunteering at Henry Ford Hospital!
