Henry Ford Earns Full 3-Year Accreditation from National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers
DETROIT – The Henry Ford Cancer Institute has earned a full three-year accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program of the American College of Surgeons. Henry Ford Hospital, Henry Ford Macomb Hospital and Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital each earned full re-accreditation, along with new accreditation for Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital and Henry Ford Allegiance Health, meaning each hospital program within Henry Ford Cancer Institute is now fully-accredited.
The NAPBC designation is a symbol of Henry Ford Cancer Institute’s commitment to providing the highest-quality evaluation and treatment for patients with breast disease. To achieve certification, Henry Ford Cancer Institute was evaluated by NAPBC based upon its 29 standards, which looked at Henry Ford’s leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.
Accreditation by the NAPBC is bestowed only upon centers that voluntarily undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
Receiving care at one of Henry Ford’s NAPBC-accredited centers ensures that a patient will have access to:
- Comprehensive care, including a full-range of state-of-the-art services.
- A multidisciplinary team-approach to coordinate the best treatment options available.
- Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options.
“We take a patient-centered approach in all we do. Each patient of Henry Ford Cancer Institute has a highly-specialized and experienced team to help them every step of the way, from diagnosis through recovery,” says Jessica Bensenhaver, M.D., director of the Breast Cancer Program at Henry Ford Cancer Institute. “Earning a full NAPBC certification is symbolic of our commitment to providing the most advanced, scientifically-based and personalized treatments for our patients to achieve the best outcomes possible.”
The NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast.
“Henry Ford Cancer Institute cares for a very diverse set of patients throughout southeast and central Michigan. The dedicated team has clearly worked tirelessly to provide high-quality, evidenced-based care to a large number of patients,” said NAPBC surveyor Hannah Gilmore, M.D., who evaluated Henry Ford Cancer Institute based on NAPBC’s 29 standards. “Members of the team should be very proud.”
