Curriculum

Below you will find a sample 3-year schedule for a general cardiology fellow (each year is divided into 13 four-week blocks). This schedule provides considerations for COCATS level 2 training in echo, nuclear, cardiac catheterization, and cardiac CT. Each fellow will decide which areas to pursue level 2 training in based on their interests and career goals. There is an option to pursue level 3 training in echo for select fellows who want to devote the majority of their third year training to echocardiography (at least 9 months total during fellowship required). There is significant flexibility in third year schedules, which will vary depending on research, subspecialty, and career interests.

During the course of fellowship, one half-day session per week will be spent in general cardiology clinic.

During third year of fellowship, fellows will have the benefit of rotating through additional specialty clinics in cardio-oncology, vascular medicine/ aortic disease, women’s health, cardio-obstetrics, preventive cardiology, sarcoidosis, amyloidosis, lipid disorders, inherited cardiomyopathies, and adult congenital heart disease.

We are proud to now offer a Medical Education Track training pathway for future leaders and educators in cardiology. The fellow in this pathway will take advantage of a carefully planned set of experiences from educators and instructional designers including workshops, retreats, didactics, coaching, and hands-on experiences. There will be opportunities for teaching medical students and residents, curriculum development, personal growth, participation in regional and national professional societies, and conducting medical education research.
