Types of gynecologic surgery
Our gynecologic surgery team offers a range of options for surgeries, such as traditional, laparoscopic, robotic, and vaginal. Surgeries we frequently perform include:
- Hysterectomy: This is surgical removal of the uterus. Hysterectomy treats a range of gynecologic conditions, such as uterine fibroids, advanced endometriosis, heavy uterine bleeding, and certain gynecologic cancers.
- Myomectomy: This procedure removes uterine fibroids, leaving the uterus intact and preserving the ability to become pregnant. This operation is a focus of our robotic surgery program. When fibroids are contained within the cavity of the uterus, we use a technique called hysteroscopy, which does not require abdominal incision and produces no scars.
- Sacrocolpopexy: This procedure corrects pelvic floor prolapse, in which the uterus and/or other pelvic organs have moved out of their normal location in the body. Our robotic surgical team performs most of these procedures with the da Vinci robotic surgery system.
